“Don’t wait for the fear to stop before you leap. Be willing to leap afraid”
If success was measured by number of fears, most people would be rich today. I still don’t understand why people spend their lives focusing on what they fear than following their dreams and doing what they love. Is following your passion and doing what you love frightening? Do you prefer living the days of your life helping others fulfil their own dreams?
Sometimes you need to stand in front of a mirror and ask yourself these questions and I know you have the answers. Be brutally honest with yourself. Are you happy with the way things are? Or have you given all your power away and simply bowed down to your fears?
I sincerely believe that you cannot fear what you have not tried. I know this because I have closely watched my son grow up in front of me. This other day my entire neighborhood had no electricity. We depended on candles for light. We had to candles and he moved towards the other one to touch it. I stopped him but he went back. Then I let him touch it, even though he didn’t get burned, he felt the heat on his skin.
The third time I pushed him towards the candle and leaned back towards me. He felt the heat, and because of that – he feared the fire. This was a lesson to him. This is why I believe that you cannot fear what you have not tried. Once you try and fail, you can`t help but try again. Dr Martin Luther King once said, “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just the first step.” And most of people are afraid of even moving their feet from where they are and go in the direction of their dreams. They are not stuck, they are afraid of the change they`d have to undergo.
To experience true success, you must conquer your fears. Do what Tony Robbins says, “keep your goals in front of you and your fears behind you” and your life will never be the same again. I did it when I quit my day job to follow my dream. Fear tried to attack but I fought with it and submitted my resignation letter. I felt liberated and regained my zeal about life. Today I’m happy and I can clearly see where my life is headed. I know what I was created to do and I have found my purpose. All because I stood up and faced my demons.
Fear is a demon and all demons can be conquered if we have the courage to stand up and face them. You`re the only person who has the power to change it. All it will take is having courage to go after what you want no matter what. Other people have conquered their fears and if they did it, you can do it too. Always remember that fear does not pay, courage does.
